Goal scorers: 3' Robin Van Persie (NED), 16' Daley Blind (NED), 90'+ Wijnaldum (NED)

Boos ring around the stadium as Brazil are beaten 3-0 by Netherlands in the third-place playoff. It has been a terrible week for the Selecao. What was set up to be the perfect stage for Brazil to wipe away disappointments of years old, has become a brand new nightmare for them to overcome!
However, the Netherlands showed real conviction towards their game and played an almost foolproof game to come out third in the competition. 'The best team to never win the world cup' are the team to finish with smiles of deserved consolations.

90+6' The referee blows for full-time as we witness another shocking display from Brazil.

90+4' Netherlands final substitution. Vorm replaces Cillessen. Every member of Van Gaal's 23-man squad have now played a part in this World Cup.

90+2' Humiliating and utterly horrendous defending from Brazil as the crowd's boos deafen ears!

90+1' GOOOAAALLL!!! NETHERLANDS ROUND UP BRAZIL'S 2014 WORLD CUP CAMPAIGN WITH A THIRD GOAL IN STOPPAGE TIME!! Wijnaldum turns in at the near post following a low cross from Janmaat. Brilliant team goal from the Dutch.

90+1' Five minutes of stoppage time to be played.

90' Netherlands substitution. Velman replaces Clasie.

88' Brazil edging towards hopeless ends as we inch towards the ninetieth minute.

83' The untidy period of the match continues, with the referee awarding a number of free kicks in the middle of the park. Chances have been few and far between in the latter stages and at the moment, it is extremely comfortable for Netherlands, who are on the verge of securing third place in this summer's tournament.

79' Now Oscar fires wide over the bar.

77' Hulk drives one over the crossbar. Nothing's working for Brazil.

73' Brazil's final substitution: Hulk replaces Ramires.

71' Netherlands substitution: Blind, knee-on-knee with Oscar, is being replaced by Janmaat.

69' Brazil booking! Well, Oscar has been booked for diving in the Dutch box to win a penalty. Replays show he exaggerated the foul… doesn't mean he wasn't fouled!

66' Brazil are giving it a go after the break. They are dictating the play but the Dutch defence is stubborn with resistance as the hosts keep failing to find net.

Brazil want a penalty as Maicon drills a cross into Vlaar, but it would have been a harsh decision. Vlaar's arms were not raised when the ball made contact.

61' ANOTHER BRAZIL CHANCE! RAMIRES SENDS IT WIDE! Ramires turns past Vlaar before driving one towards the bottom corner at the edge of the Dutch box, but it just moves wide of Cillessen's post.

58' Oh! Hernanes does the split to slide in extrememly late on Robben taking out the Dutch striker. It's the Brazilian's first contribution to the game and he escapes a booking.

57' Brazil substitution: Paulinho is replaced by Hernanes.

54' Brazil booking! Fernandinho goes into the referee's book for wiping out Van Persie on the far end.

50' Ramires takes matters into his own hands for Brazil by driving through the heart of the Netherlands defence, but Vlaar is on hand to clear for a corner. Moments later, Robben is down the other end, but the Bayern winger is brought to the ground by Ramires. End-to-end football in the last couple of minutes.

46' Brazil get the second-half underway. SUB! One change for Brazil at the break, with Fernandinho replacing Gustavo.

Half Time

As we head into the interval the Netherlands lead Brazil 2-0, courtesy of goals from Van Persie and Blind. Van Persie scored the first from a spot-kick, a decision that later showed doubtful in the replays. Blind found the top corner following some poor defending from David Luiz. The Netherlands have the game in control at the Estádio Nacional.

45+3' The referee blows for half-time.

45+1' Two minutes added on to the half's play

41' PERSIE! Cesar saves! Netherlands come forward once more with De Vrij, but this time Brazil have bodies behind the ball. Van Persie eventually strikes one from outside the box, but Cesar is down to make a smart save.

40' Break in play as Kuyt stays down and is treated on the field by the Dutch medical team. He is taken off the pitch for further treatment and reinvigoration. Play resumes.

38' CHANCE! Wonderful opportunity for Brazil as Luis Gustavo meets a near-post free kick from Oscar, but it just edges wide of the post. David Luiz was inches away from making contact at the far stick. Brazil can't get their hopes up.

36' Second Netherlands booking! Jonathan De Guzman is shown a yellow for a trip from behind on Oscar at the heart of midfield.

34' The Oscar free-kick flies out for a corner with the last touch off Indi.

33' Maicon is brought down at the edge of the Dutch penalty area. He appeals to the referee pointing to the spot. But the man in charge thinks otherwise.

29' Video replays have confirmed that Robben was fouled outside the Brazil area for the resulting penalty.

29' The Brazilian number eleven flies in the free-kick but no yellow shirt can make solid connection.

28' Oscar surges up on the right of the Dutch area but is clipped down as he goes past Martins Indi. Free-kick Brazil.

27' Brazil spends a bit more time on the ball with the Dutch sit deep inside their own half.

21' SAVE! Brazil threatens for the first time! Oscar zigzags across the right of midfield and smashes in low from outside the box forcing the Dutch goalie Cillissen to get down making the save.

16' GOOOAAALLL!!! The clockwork ticks two for the Oranje as David Luiz sends an awful clearance header into the middle of the box where Daley Blind is left noticeably unmarked. He simply fires into the top corner to double the Dutch lead. The nightmare from Mineirão hasn't stopped! Brazil 0, Netherlands 2!

9' Netherlands booking! Robben is awarded a yellow card after the Netherlands winger brings Paulinho to the ground having lost possession. He joins Silva in the book.

9' The Brazil captain was cautioned with a yellow card for the foul that conceded the penalty. It's fair to say Thiago Silva has escaped being sent-off.

7' Neither side are too interested in defending at the moment as Brazil break with Oscar, who delivers a brilliant cross towards Ramires, but Blind just does enough to clear the danger. End-to-end football with seven minutes played.

' GOAL!!! Brazil trail a goal with the game barely kicked-off again! The hush in the stadium is louder than any noise as Van Persie puts it out of Cesar's reach up into the top corner for his fourth goal of the tournament. Great spot-kick! Brazil 0, Netherlands 1.

2' IT'S A PENALTY!! The referee has pointed to the spot and Brazil off to another disastrous start!
Van Persie turns and sends the ball through from the right side for Robben. He dashes into the box and was pulled down by the captain Thiago Silva. No doubt about the decision.

1' The Netherlands kick-off the match.

Team news:

Brazil: Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari made six changes to his starting lineup for Saturday's World Cup third-place match against the Netherlands, with Jo coming in to replace Fred at center forward.

Captain Thiago Silva returns to the center of defense after missing the 7-1 semi-final defeat to Germany through suspension, while Maxwell replaces Marcelo at left back.

Scolari also dropped Hulk, Bernard and Fernandinho and deployed Ramires, Willian and Paulinho instead as Brazil seek to recover some pride against the 2010 runners-up, who lost to Argentina on penalties in Wednesday's second semi-final.

Lineup: 12-Julio Cesar; 23-Maicon, 3-Thiago Silva, 14-Maxwell, 4-David Luiz; 17-Luiz Gustavo, 8-Paulinho, 11-Oscar, 16-Ramires, 19-Willian; 21-Jo

Substitutes: 1-Jefferson, 2-Daniel Alves, 5-Fernandinho, 6-Marcelo, 7-Hulk, 9-Fred, 10-Neymar, 13-Dante, 15-Henrique, 18-Hernanes, 20-Bernard, 22-Victor

Netherlands: Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal made a single change from the Argentina game, replacing Nigel de Jong with the more attack-minded Jordy Clasie in midfield.

Lineup: 1-Jasper Cillessen; 3-Stefan de Vrij, 2-Ron Vlaar, 4-Bruno Martins Indi, 15-Dirk Kuyt, 5-Daley Blind; 16-Jordy Clasie, 11-Arjen Robben, 20-Georginio Wijnaldum, 10-Wesley Sneijder; 9-Robin van Persie

Substitutes: 6-Nigel de Jong, 7-Daryl Janmaat, 8-Jonathan de Guzman, 12-Paul Verhaegh, 13-Joel Veltman, 14-Terence Kongolo, 17-Jeremain Lens, 18-Leroy Fer, 19-Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, 21-Memphis Depay, 22-Michel Vorm, 23-Tim Krul

By contrast, Scolari's Dutch counterpart Louis van Gaal, whose side exceeded many people's expectations by reaching the last four, has said the third-place game is pointless and that too will ramp up the pressure on the hosts.

Savaged in local media after the Germany match, Scolari labelled the semi-final disaster the worst day of his life and he and his staff are widely expected to step aside after the tournament whether they beat the Dutch or not.

After Brazil's utter humiliation against Germany, anything less than a win in Saturday's third-place match against an indifferent Netherlands team would deepen the gloom hanging over the World Cup hosts.

Brazil's astounding 7-1 semi-final thrashing by rampant Germany ended their dream of winning a sixth World Cup, and a first on home soil, and plunged the nation into despair.

There is still the prospect, an appalling one for many Brazilians, that arch-rivals Argentina could win Sunday's final in Rio de Janeiro.

Although third spot would be scant consolation for many, the match at the national stadium is one Brazil, and under-fire coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, must take very seriously.

After an unprecedented 7-1 Germany mauling in the semi-finals, the hosts look to lift the nation's spirit in a chance to exact revenge on the Dutch for their quarter-finals exit in South Africa 2010.
