“At a time when the pro-Liberation forces, led by Sheikh Hasina, are marching forward and Hasnul Huq Inu declaring war against terrorism, Syed Ashraf’s comments will dent the unity,” Shirin Aktar, general secretary of the JaSoD faction, said on Tuesday.
Veteran Awami League leader Syed Ashraful Islam said at a discussion on Monday that his party would have to atone for making a JaSoD leader a minister.
His remarks were aimed at Information Minister Inu, who heads a faction of JaSoD, after the party split recently.
Speaking at the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) organised event at the Dhaka University, Syed Ashraf warned the ruling party’s student front.
The public administration minister asked leaders and activists to learn from history and stay away from the ‘reckless’ JaSoD.
At a rally on Tuesday, JaSoD came down hard on the ruling alliance leader, the Awami League.
“Please restrain your minister, the one who is denting unity. You will have to spell it out clearly whether you want unity,” Dhaka University teacher Prof Anwar Hossain said, alluding to Prime Minister Hasina.
Hossain had been in the Left-wing party’s leadership during the post-Liberation War era.
“JaSoD will not accept this,” he told the rally.
