The minister was replying to queries from journalists after inaugurating power connections to 10 villages at Alinagar and Mogolgaon unions in Sylhet on Monday.

"In my opinion their apprehension is nonsense," he said in reply to a question.

BNP leaders have been alleging that the Election Commission is not functioning impartially to hold a free and fair municipal election.

The party’s acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday said the EC was playing a 'partisan' role.

After the inauguration of the power connections, Muhith also said all villages in the country would be connected to the power grid by 2021.

Former permanent representative of Bangladesh to the UN AK Abdul Momen attended the programme among others.
