Huda, chairman of the nascent Bangladesh Manabadhikar Party (BMP), made the announcement at a discussion at the Sagar-Runi Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity on Friday.

“Both the (female) leaders, during their respective terms, grabbed all the power from the people by force. Now the people of Bangladesh are bereft of any power.

“We will bring together those who believe in democracy and democratic laws and form Jatiya Jot next Jan 7.”

Huda, the former vice-chairman of BNP, was expelled from the party in 2010 for going against the party position after Khaleda Zia had left her home of 28 years in Dhaka Cantonment after losing court battle.

Then he floated a political party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF), which later drove him out too.

Afterwards, in May last year, he formed another party called the National Alliance (NA) but was met with no response.

There were rumours that Huda would return to the BNP but he proved them wrong by announcing the formation of BMP on Nov 29 last year.
