Detective Branch of police picked him up in a white microbus sometime after 7pm on Sunday.

Witnesses said plainclothesmen intercepted and detained him as he was coming out of the club in his car.

When asked, DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman told bdnews24.com: “Yes, he has been arrested.”

He, however, declined to give the reasons.

Before the arrest, Hafizuddin announced that the Opposition will hold nonstop sit-in demonstrations on roads, railways and waterways across Bangladesh until the Jan 5 general elections.

The fresh programme came after the government foiled Opposition’s rally on Sunday.

Law enforcers detained several top leaders of the BNP amid its movement demanding postponement of the Jan 5 polls and holding them under a non-party caretaker government.

On Sunday police arrested party chief Khaleda Zia’s Advisor Enam Ahmed Chowdhury. Earlier, they detained BNP Joint Secretary General Mahbubuddin Khokon on Thursday and party’s former MP Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bokul and MP Shammi Akter on Tuesday.

Before them, BNP leaders Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar, Rafiqul Islam Mia, Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Mir Mohmmad Nasir Uddin, Abdul Awal Mintoo, Golam Akbor Khandker and Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas were arrested.
