In a statement issued on Tuesday, BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also said that the government was spreading rumours about a possible dialogue to sow confusion.

“I want to clarify that this illegal and immoral government does not want any settlement. They are not sincere about it,” he said.

“They are talking about a so-called dialogue only to confuse the people. It is completely baseless.”

In the statement issued on the party’s letterhead from an undisclosed place, Fakhrul said, “Government agents are spreading rumours in the media, including social media.”

“They are resorting to rumours because they are getting weaker by the minute.”

He issued the statement in response to claims by some ministers that back-room talks were on to make the Opposition join the parliamentary election.
Ever since the BNP-led 18-Party alliance announced its countrywide blockade movement, the BNP spokesman has been issuing statements from secret locations, mostly over telephone.
Most of the BNP’s top-level leaders have gone into hiding, fearing arrest.
Joint Secretary General Salahuddin Ahmed, too, announced the party’s new agitation plans through video messages or statements issued from hideouts.
In a telephone message from an undisclosed place, Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan told reporters on Tuesday that their movement would be on till their demands were met.
The ruling Awami League-led government, on the other hand, has already gone ahead and formed an ‘all-party’ government to hold the next election, scheduled on Jan 5.
At least 37 people have died so far in the BNP-led Opposition's marathon blockade, whose latest spell ends on Thursday evening.
