Injured Benzir Ahmed, a student of Islamic History at the Government Azizul Haque College, is a member of the convening committee of the BCL college unit.

The Shibir men also stabbed him in his thighs.

The incident took place in the city’s Kanuchhgarhi around 12.45pm on Thursday, said Bogra Sadar Police Station OC Syed Shahid Alam.

The college BCL unit Joint Convener Quamrul Huda Ujjal said about a dozen Shibir activists had attacked Benzir.

He ran into a pharmacy to save himself but the Shibir men pursued him into the shop and cut the tendon of his left hand and stabbed him, Quamrul said.

They exploded several bombs before leaving the spot, he said.

Locals rushed Benzir to Mohammad Ali Hospital. He was later shifted to the Bogra Shahid Zia Medical College Hospital.

Hospital physician Dr Alok Kumar said Benzir’s condition was critical.

OC Shahid Alam said they had learnt that Shibir activists were involved in the attack. “We are looking into the matter,” he said.
