bdnews24.com’s Foyzul Alam Siddique was also subjected to assault.

Private channel Ekushey Television’s reporter Nadia Sharmin was attacked near the office of Jatiya Party by the radical party supporters, who were demanding cancelling the women’s policy and banning public mixing of men and women.

Daily Ittefaq’s photojournalist Sujon Mondol was attacked near the Paltan intersection.
Both were treated at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The journalists were dubbed as ‘dalals’ (touts) and ‘nastiks’ (non-believers) during the assault by the Hifazat activists at the Paltan Road crossing on Saturday.
Foyzul Alam Siddique was severely beaten up by the Hifazat activists. A freelance photographer Nazrul Islam was also critically injured in the assault.
“They attacked us when we tried to save Nazrul,” Siddiqui said.
He said they rescued Nazrul but he had sustained injuries.
Earlier in the day, the Hifazat supporters had attacked a rally of the Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee and then hurled water bottles at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner around noon.
Police had given permission for the rally on the condition that there would be no untoward incident.
