On Feb 19, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Saifur Rahman had asked Siddiqui to be present before the court after primary hearing on the case filed by Ruhul Amin Majumder, a freedom fighter.
The court granted him bail after Siddiqui appeared before it and appealed for bail on Monday morning, his lawyer Mahbub Hasan Rana told bdnews24.com.
According to the case details, Kader Siddiqui on Feb 9 at a party rally questioned the role of current Home Minister, saying he was a ‘Razakar’ in 1971. Media reports had highlighted the comment by Kader Siddiqui the next day.
Kader Siddiqui, a Bir Uttam had said he could provide proof that Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir was a Razakar, member of a certain group of collaborators which assisted the Pakistani occupation forces during the 1971 Liberation War.
“During Liberation War, how come he (Alamgir) was an Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Mymensingh?” Siddiqui had told the rally.
Complainant Majumder from Dhaka’s Free School Street filed the case, saying he feels insulted by the statement as a 'freedom fighter'.
