Shibir men go berserk in Comilla

Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student affiliate of Jamaat-e-Islami, resorted to widespread vandalism in Comilla city on Saturday morning.

Shibir supporters brought out a procession from Pubali Chattar in Kandirpar. They damaged several establishments including two hospitals while marching towards Tomchom Bridge, bdnews24.com Comilla Correspondent reported citing witnesses.

A Pubali Bank ATM booth, some stationery shops, the Midland Hospital and the United Hospital (of Tomchom Bridge), the Firoza petrol pump owned by local Awami League leader Abdul Hakim, two buses, one truck and an ambulance were damaged by the Shibir mob.

They also blocked two kilometres of the highway stretching from Joypurjat bustand area to Hichmi Bazar by bringing down electric poles on it.

Joypurhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdur Rashid said the normal traffic on Joypurhat-Bogra Highway resumed after police intervention.
