Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Motijheel circle) Mehadi Hasan told bdnews24.com that the terror was unleashed from a procession taken out by the BNP around 4pm. The unruly activists of the party vandalised several vehicles during the mayhem.

The law enforcers had to fire several rounds of rubber bullets and lob teargas shells to disperse them.

Police picked up several people from the three locations.

Sub-Inspector of the Paltan Police Station Jahangir Hossain, who was deputed in Malibagh, said the rowdy pickets set ablaze a private car in front of Hosaf Tower.

They also exploded crude bombs, attacked police personnel and vandalised vehicles in Malibagh.

The BNP men also carried out terror in the areas stretching from Shantibagh intersection to Mouchak Market, the police officer added.
