Cases against Jamaat-Shibir men over Bogra attack

Police have filed two cases in Bogra against at least three thousand members of the Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir over attacks on the law enforcers during Thursday’s shutdown.

Bogra's Assistant Police Superintendent Mokbul Hossain told bdnews24.com Sub-Inspector Manjurul Haque filed one lawsuit on Friday morning against 30 named and over 1,500 anonymous people over the attacks in the ‘Satmatha’ area.

SI Anwar Hossain filed the other case in the morning against 30 named and over 1,500 anonymous people over attacks at the ‘Government Azizul Haque College’ premises.

Jamaat-Shibir men clashed with the law enforcers repeatedly in the Bogra city during the shutdown called by the Jamaat-e-Islami on Thursday. The day was marked with arson in a hostel and vandalism in several areas. Three people were killed.

The three were – the President of the Govt Azizul Haque College chapter of the Shibir, Abu Rohani, Jamaat activist Abdullah and poultry businessman Mizanur Rahman.

Jamaat had claimed all the three to be of their own. Police, however, said that Mizanur was a businessman.

ASP Mokbul said bodies of the killed were sent to their respective homes for burial.

Mizanur was from Comilla’s Maniknagar village in the Titash upazila, Abdullah was from Joypurhat’s Adarshapara in Kalai upazila and Rohani was from Mondalpara of Bogra Sadr.

Jamaat and its student affiliate - Shibir, have called for a 6am-6pm shutdown in Bogra on Saturday.
