AL tyranny can't tame protest: Jamaat

Dhaka, Sept 27 (bdnews24.com)–Jamaat-e-Islami's acting chief Maqbul Ahmad has said Awami League's 'repression' will not tame their protest.
He told the BNP's Naya Paltan rally on Tuesday, Maqbul said, "We have to be united against the oppression and repression of Awami League. They will not be able to stop our protest by sending us to jail."
"I would like to request the government to call elections under a caretaker government. Otherwise you will not be able to stop people's stream."
BNP chief Khaleda Zia also spoke as the chief guest of the rally.
Maqbul claimed that police attacked the 'peaceful procession' of Jamaat's student front Islami Chhatra Shibir on Sept 19.
"Police attacked us, fired tear gas and also arrested our leaders and supporters, called us 'terrorist'."
That day, about 50 policemen were injured in violent clashes with supporters of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir who torched and vandalised at least 15 vehicles.
Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) chairman Andalib Rahman Partha said, "Muhammad Yunus won Nobel Peace prize. But in our country who will won the Nobel for distress?" The audience shouted, "(prime minister Sheikh) Hasina."
Khelafat-e-Majlish chairman Mohammad Ishaq, Kalyan Party chairman Syed Mohammad Ibrahim and LDP chairman Oli Ahmed also spoke at the rally.
Standing committee members Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, R A Gani, Mahbubur Rahman, Tariqul Islam, M K Anwar, A S M Hannan Shah, Mirza Abbas, Rafiqul Islam Mia, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan and Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, among others, were also present.
