Parliament adopts condolence motion at death of Col (rtd) Akbar Hossain

The parliament Monday unanimously adopted a condolence motion commemorating Shipping Minister Lt Col (rtd) Akbar Hossain, who died of cardiac arrest Sunday night.

Dhaka, June 26 (BDNEWS) – The parliament Monday unanimously adopted a condolence motion commemorating Shipping Minister Lt Col (rtd) Akbar Hossain, who died of cardiac arrest Sunday night.
Lawmakers from both treasury and the opposition benches appreciated the role of the valiant freedom fighter during the war of liberation as well as his contribution for the democracy at different critical juncture of the country in the post-independence period.
Acting speaker Akhter Hamid Siddiki chaired the session as the Parliament resumed Monday.
"Across the political divide, he was a good orator. He was not a believer of conflict, but cooperation and ventured for mitigate any crisis," LGRD Minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan said.
Expressed deep sympathy for the bereaved family members and praying for salvation of his departed soul, Bhuiyan said, Akbar was a progressive, tolerant, non-communal and a successful minister.
Deputy leader of the opposition Advocate Abdul Hamid said Akbar never criticised the political opponent with a vindictive attitude. "His criticism and attack was always humorous and hilarious. Everybody of us should take lesson from him and from his departure."
Thirty-five lawmakers, including Barrister Maudud Ahmed, MK Anwar, Shahjahan Siraj, Hafizuddin Ahmad, Matiur Rahman Nizami, Mohammad Nasim, vice principal Abdus Shaheed and ASHK Sadeq, took part in the discussion on the condolence motion.
The other lawmakers said that Akbar played an outstanding role in the Liberation War and nationalist politics.
Terming Akbar Hossain as a farsighted, talented and enlightened person, they said at his death the nation lost a prominent leader whose place can never be replaced.
They prayed for peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Later, a munajat was offered seeking eternal peace of his departed soul.
The parliament session was adjourned till 10.30am Tuesday.
