JS session adjourned without transacting any business following death of Jamaat MP

The parliament session was adjourned Monday without transacting any business of the day following the death of a sitting Jamaat lawmaker from Dinajpur.

Dhaka, Sept 12 (BDNEWS) - The parliament session was adjourned Monday without transacting any business of the day following the death of a sitting Jamaat lawmaker from Dinajpur.
Mohammad Abdullah Al Kafi, elected from Dinajpur-1 constituency, died of liver cirrhosis at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital in Dhaka Monday. He was 61.
An obituary reference was adopted over the death of Kafi soon after resuming of the session at 5.12 pm.
Speaker Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar adjourned the session till 5 pm Tuesday.
Piloting the obituary reference, the Speaker also told the House that the country has lost an educationist, politician and a social worker at his death.
The Jatiya Sangsad expressed its profound condolence at the death of Abdullah Al Kafi and prayed for salvation of the departed soul, and also conveyed deep sympathy for the bereaved family members.
The house also observed a one-minute silence to pay homage to the late MP.
A special prayer conducted by Industries Minister Motiur Rahman Nizami was also held seeking divine blessing of the Almighty for salvation of the departed.
Later, a discussion was held in this regard.
LGRD and Cooperatives minister Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, Post and Telecommunications minister Barrister Aminul Haq, state minister for Agriculture Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Jamaat lawmakers Abdus Shobhan, Shah Ruhul Kuddus and Jatiya Party lawmaker Mojibor Rahman, took part in the discussion.
Moulana Kafi, involved in many social welfare activities and social organisations, was elected lawmaker in the Jatiya Sangsad held on October 1, 2001.
He also carried out his duty as a member of the standing committee on land ministry. He visited Canadian Parliament as a member of Bangladesh delegation through Strengthening Parliamentary Democracy (SPD) Project.
After the discussion, the obituary reference was adopted unanimously.
