The UN chief's spokesperson said in a statement on Friday that Ban was deeply concerned over the rising tensions between the countries, especially the reported cease-fire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) after the Sept 18 Indian army base attack.

The statement said the UN chief urged both sides to 'exercise maximum restraint'.

"He calls on the Governments of Pakistan and India to address their outstanding issues, including Kashmir, peacefully through diplomacy and dialogue. His good offices are available, if accepted by both sides," reads the statement.
