Kejriwal was spotted wearing sandals at a banquet Indian president Pranab Mukherjee hosted in honour of visiting French President Francois Hollande at Rashtrapati Bhavan late last month, reports The Times of India.

Sumit Agrawal, an Andhra Pradesh businessman, said in an open letter to Kejriwal on Feb 1 that the chief minister was representing the country at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Indian president’s official residence, and "not staging a dharna (an agitation) at an Aam Aadmi Party rally at Ramlila Maidan or Jantar Mantar".

Agrawal wondered whether Kejriwal's choice of footwear was a planned publicity stunt.
The businessman sent Kejriwal the money through a demand draft.
Agarwal said that, while Kejriwal was free to dress as he liked, “some places are above personal preferences”.
"Kejriwal was at the president's dinner at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, not a friend's birthday party in a restaurant in Hauz Khas,” he wrote.
In a word advice, he said: “You're a grown man. Please act according to the situation and dress for the occasion."
According to the Times of India, the businessman then mentioned his efforts to collect donations - which added up to Rs 364 - towards helping Kejriwal buy a pair of shoes.
“Sir, I know that this is a very small amount, but it is the result of the effort of an entire Sunday afternoon of hard work. I had initiated the collection with an initial contribution of Rs 49," Agrawal writes.
He appealed to the chief minister to maintain dignity while meeting foreign delegates.
