Four get life in Agartala serial blasts case

An Agartala court has awarded life sentence to four convicted for involvement in a series of explosions that rocked Agartala in October 2008 .

76 persons were injured in the explosions.
 
The trial continued for long seven years.  
 
On Tuesday, Additional Sessions Judge S B Datta held all four, guilty of murder, attempt to murder, criminal conspiracy and other offences under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Explosive Substances Act.
 
“The accused have been found guilty under IPC 120 Section B and IPC 307,” said Special Public Prosecutor was L R Khadim adding: “These four are extremists belonging to the ATTF ."
 
Organizations like All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF)  and National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT)  are banned by the Indian government. 
 
Khadim said 12 extremists  were accused in the blast but five of them are absconding and said to be hiding in Satcheri ATTF camp in Bangladesh.
 
Three of the seven arrested -- Santanu Chowdhury, Amal Acharjee and Budhi Debbarma --  were let off for insufficient evidence.
 
But Dinesh Debbarma, Kumaria Debbarma, Sachindra Debbarma and Bikash Debbarma were convicted and found responsible for plotting and executing five explosions during the Durga Puja festival season in busy market places and bus terminus of the capital city.
  
On October 1, 2008 Tripura's capital Agartala was rocked by five explosions within 45 minutes that left 76 injured.

The first bomb blast took place in the Gol Bazaar area.
 
Five minutes later the second blast happened at the Radha Nagar bus stop area. Subsequently there were blasts at the Old Motor stand in Gol Bazaar, MG Bazaar and near Priya Motors in the Palace compound.
