They started falling ill after knowing that an extended building of the factory was constructed over a piece of land which had been a crematorium.

Authorities of AKH Knitting and Dyeing Limited announced holiday in the factory at Rajfulbaria for a day, Savar Model Police Station OC Motaleb Mia said.

Quality Controller Mahadi Hasan said the sick workers were admitted to several hospitals in the area.

Enam Medical College and Hospital Vice Principal and Psychiatry department Professor Dewan Abdur Rahim said it was not a disease.

"It happened because they panicked," he said.

"Generally women face such problem. It is called mass hysteria in medical science," he added.

The sick workers were given saline support

Factory Director S M Sadullah said a Milad-Mahfil was held on Saturday for the panic.

"We are checking the matter," he added.
