The 70th annual Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to be held from May 17 to 28.

The Marché du Film had approved participation of all three candidates of the International Film Initiative of Bangladesh (IFIB), but the French Embassy in Dhaka denied visas for the two male applicants, 'Malick' and 'Muntasir'.

The third finalist, Lubna Sharmin, has been granted visa.

IEFTA’s President Marco Orsini said the IEFTA is “committed to the success of IFIB in Bangladesh and will continue to support filmmakers from Bangladesh”.

“We are deeply saddened by the decision of the French Embassy in Dhaka, especially after the Marché du Film accepted all three applicants into the Producers Workshop,” Orsini said in a statement.

“We hope to clarify their position for future programs and hope they can support the growth of Bangladesh cinema abroad.”
