During a meeting of Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) governing body, which she chairs, Hasina said new areas have been selected for the zones.

Her Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told reporters after the meeting that the prime minister stressed on working with new ideas to prop up investments in private and public sectors.

“Emphasising energy and connectivity for the economic zones, the prime minister said if needed, the investors can set up their own power plants,” said Karim.

She told the BEZA governing body members to promote agro-processing and export of machine parts, according to Karim.

The prime minister stressed on labour-intensive industries to ensure creation of jobs, he added.

In June this year, while presenting the budget, Finance Minister AMA Muhith revealed plans for the economic zones aiming to create 10 million jobs.
