Rice dearer in capital

Prices of rice have increased by around Tk 2 a kilogram in last one week in Dhaka city.

Millers and wholesalers attributed the hike to the increase in prices of paddy and the supply disruption caused by flood.

The flood hampered timely arrival of Aush rice in the market.

This correspondent found Swarna and China IRRI varieties of rice were selling in different Dhaka markets on Friday at Tk two more per kilogram than the previous week’s rates.

Wholesaler at Karwan Bazar Abu Bakar Siddique told bdnews24.com per kg Swarna rice was selling at Tk 35-36 on Friday against Tk 33-34 a week back.
He said prices of China IRRI rice rose to Tk 36-38 from Tk 35-36 on previous Friday.
BR-8 and BR-11 varieties of rice were selling at Tk 33-35.
According to state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), prices of coarse rice increased by 4.29 percent in the last one month and 10.61 percent in one year.
Dinajpur District Rice Mill Association General Secretary Shahidur Rahman Patwari Mohon told bdnews24.com prices of paddy rose by up to Tk 60 in the last one month.
