Hyderabad secured the service of the 20-year old left-arm pacer for 14 million rupees in the IPL Auction in Bengaluru on Saturday.
His base price was set at 5 million rupees.
Hyderabad began the call for Mustafizur, and then Vijay Mallya's Royal Challengers Bengaluru joined the bid. But the latter gave up once Hyderabad raised it to 14 million rupees.
Mustafizur is the sixth Bangladeshi cricketer to be drafted in IPL auctions.
Before him, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Tamim Iqbal, Mohammad Ashraful, Abdur Razzak and Shakib Al Hasan were recruited by franchises in the Indian domestic Twenty20 competition.
Shakib is now a big name in the IPL while the rest were part of their teams for one season each.
Tamim, however, did not get the chance to play despite being part of the Pune Warriors.
"It feels good. I was hoping I would get the opportunity. Everybody was saying I may be drafted this time," Mustafizur told bdnews24.com over the phone after the bidding.
"Shakib is doing very well [in the IPL]. Mashrafe and the others have played there too. It feels good that I will be playing there too."
Earlier, Mustafiz was also drafted by the Lahore Qalandars for $50,000 in the ongoing Pakistan Super League.
But he is not playing in the competition due to a shoulder injury.
Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamim, too, were in the IPL auction but they remained unsold.
