Earning a spot in ICC's ODI Team of the Year is a historic milestone for Bangladesh cricket but Mustafizur Rahman humbly says he is simply happy to be nominated along with big names.
The game's governing council announced their ODI and Test teams of the year on Wednesday.
The 20-year old seamer became the first Bangladeshi player to be included in ICC's ODI team.
Mustafizur was warming up with his Dhaka Dynamites teammates when he heard the news ahead of their BPL clash against Comilla Victorians at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.
"I was on the field then, everyone congratulated me. It was great feeling, as I am the first from my country. I am bound to feel happy for being (named) with so many big cricketers," he told journalists after the match.
Mustafizur had taken 18 wickets in only six ODIs within the time frame considered for the selection. But the youngster is not over the moon for this huge recognition that has come early in his career.
"What I achieved in how short a time is not how I think. I have always thought of playing well since being given the chance."
Mustafizur said he wanted to do well regardless of recognition.
"I am always focussed on bowling well…doing something for the country."
Before this, star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was named in the ICC Test Team of the Year in 2009.
