The fans clashed with the law enforcers twice amidst heavy pressure of the spectators during a warm-up cricket match between Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) XI and South Africa, Fatullah Model Police Station OC Md Asaduzzaman said.

Three of the injured were admitted to Narayanganj Sadar Hospital.

Police could not immediately ascertain the identities of the injured.

Witnesses said thousands of cricket fans gathered around the stadium since morning for the match that began around 1pm.

The stadium was packed in an hour after the authorities opened the gates around 11am.

The supporters outside the stadium tried to enter it around 1pm and 2:30pm.

They started shoving police and the security personnel deployed in the stadium.

Several fans were stampeded before they were dispersed, the witnesses said.

Additional police personnel reached the scene and brought the situation under control.

Three youth were injured when they tried to cross the barbed-wire fencing into the field.

Fatullah OC Asaduzzaman said cricket fans flooded the stadium on the weekly holiday as the entry to the stadium was free for the warm-up match.

He said the extra pressure forced the spectators to indulge in pushing and shoving to make their way.

Police charged batons to tackle the situation, he said.

In the match, South Africa defeated BCB XI by 8 wickets.
