Bangladesh played as a team to beat Scotland, says Tamim

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has given credit to the entire team for their scintillating six-wicket victory over Scotland.

The left-handed opener led the chase from the front with 95 as the Tigers posted their highest ODI chase, keeping alive their hopes to reach quarter-finals of the World Cup.
 
“It was a team effort,” Tamim said at a post-match press conference at Nelson on Thursday.
 
“I may have scored the most runs, but I believe Mushfique, Mahmudullah, Shakib, Sabbir, everyone’s innings was important,” he said humbly.
 
Kyle Coetzer's 156 had helped Scotland put up a challenging 318 for 8 in 50 overs. 
 
But a determined Bangladesh side chased down the target in 48.1 overs with six wickets and 11 balls to go.
 
It was the Tigers’ first 300-plus run in a World Cup match.
 
A brilliant knock by opener Tamim and a classy innings by Mahmudullah Riyad (62) set the Tigers up for the long chase.
 
Bangladeshi opener Anamul Haque hurt his right shoulder while fielding in the 31st over. Imrul Kayes will replace him.
 
The Tigers now need to win their next match against England to find a place in the last eight.
 
In 2009, Bangladesh chased down Zimbabwe’s 313-run target where Tamim scored 154.
 
Tamim said one or two great performances could not have secured the win against the Scots. 
 
“Three or four of us needed to perform well to win and that’s exactly what we did today,” he said.
 
The left hander recalled their team meeting before the chase where the coach had instructed them to play their natural game.
 
“We really enjoyed batting. The wicket was great and the outfield was very fast.
 
“We didn’t have to do much. The ball was flying if the timing was right,” he said.
