The BCB boss complained that the regulars stood in the way of new recruits breaking into the team.

“Take Mominul (Haque) for instance. He performed really well after coming into the side. But he couldn’t take part in a handful of matches after that despite being in the squad. Because Nasir (Hossain) or (Mahmudullah) Riyad had to be out if Mominul was to play,” he said to the reporters on Thursday.

Introducing new spinners was a problem too as Abdur Razzak had to be left out, Hasan said.

These complications led the BCB to stress on behavioural overhaul of the players.

“Some incidents happened which we thought were potentially bad for the future. We had no option to give someone new a chance even if he did well because the newcomer’s inclusion would mean omission of someone established.”

“So we had to decide on several things and make a handful of changes.”

“The situation was like ‘I play here, will keep doing that and there is no chance of making any change’,” the board chief continued.

However, the BCB president thinks there had been a change in the players’ mindset, of late.

Consequentially, their teamwork was very efficient with the team spirit very high, he observed.
