Police say members of ‘VX’ and ‘CFC’ groups, hurling stones, fought with each other on Sunday morning.

University police outpost Sub-Inspector Abul Khaer said they had lobbed teargas canisters to control of the situation.

‘CFC’ members locked the university’s main gate around 8am but police opened it about two hours later.

Sanskrit department student Tapas Sarker was killed on Dec 14 in clashes between the two groups. ‘CFC’ claimed Tapas to be their activist and blamed ‘VX’ for the death.

Police also suspected several ‘VX’ activists to be involved in the killing.

Since then, the ‘VX’ members had been staying off the campus.

Tension brewed on Sunday after ‘VX’ activists entered the Shahjalal Hall in the morning, witnesses said.

Minutes later, members of ‘CFC’ group from Shah Amanat Hall tried to force their way into Shahjalal Hall leading to fresh clashes.

Police and witnesses said the groups fired at each other as well.
