Dhaka School of Economic sets off

Set up following the London School of Economics model, Dhaka School of Economics (DScE) has set off in the capital to act as a specialised institution for Economics.

Dhaka, Feb 22 (bdnews24.com) – Set up following the London School of Economics model, Dhaka School of Economics (DScE) has set off in the capital to act as a specialised institution for Economics.
Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid inaugurated its nine-month post-graduate diploma programme at the office of Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) on Wednesday evening.
The minister expressed his hope that it would contribute greatly to creating 'jewel economists' in Bangladesh.
DScE will run its activities from the BEA building.
The school achieved formal acknowledgement as an institution of Dhaka University in December last year. Seventeen students have already got admitted to the diploma course.
It will start offering eighteen-month course for Masters degree from this year.
DScE governing council chief Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad chaired the inaugural programme.
Governing council member and former chief justice Tofazzal Islam, former governor of Bangladesh Bank Mohammed Farashuddin, economists Abul Barakat, Toufique Ahmad Chowdhury, Saidur Rahman Laskar and Narayan Chandra Nath, former education secretary Syed Ataur Rahman and Mutual Trust Bank senior-vice president Shamim Hossai were present, among others.
