PM Hasina says govt won't take extra loans from banks

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has promised that the government will not take additional loans from banks, which will in turn keep the financial sector stable.

"The government will not exceed the bank borrowing limits. The government won't take any extra loans and the financial sector won't be harmed. I can promise that much," Hasina said in parliament on Wednesday.

"There is nothing to worry about."

Finance Minister AMA Muhith unveiled a Tk 4 trillion budget for FY2018 in parliament on Jun 1, with a deficit of Tk 1.12 trillion or 5 percent of the GDP.

In his budget speech, Muhith said he plans to borrow Tk 301.5 billion from government-managed savings schemes and Tk 282.03 billion from the banks.
