British businesses want to expand operations in Bangladesh, says new envoy Alison Blake

Newly appointed British High Commissioner Alison Blake has said that UK-based businesses want to expand their operations in Bangladesh, particularly in the energy sector.

The UK is one of the largest sources of foreign direct investment in Bangladesh. Some 100 firms are currently operating in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh always encourages UK firms to invest in the energy, infrastructure, ports and logistics, environment and water, education and skills development sectors.

The High Commissioner, in her first meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on Sunday, showed her interest in encouraging UK investors.

She particularly mentioned that UK businesses want to expand their operations in the energy sector.

She said the UK would continue to support Bangladesh in its development strides.

The PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters after the meeting.
