Speaking to bdnews24.com on Monday, he said: “First I’ll attach special importance to internal audit. I think the weakness in internal audit is responsible for the irregularities and corruption in our banks.”

“That’s why I want to focus on this matter. I’ll ask the bank officials at the beginning to give attention to audit so that any incident like Hall-Mark scam doesn’t happen in any way,” he added.
Hall-Mark Group had swindled Tk 25.00 billion from Sonali Bank, the largest state-owned bank.
Economist Bakht received the appointment letter on Monday and will take over as the chairman of Agrani on Tuesday.
He was also made Sonali Bank director after its board of directors was dissolved following the Hall-Mark scam.
