StanChart awards 2 farmers, 4 organisations

Standard Chartered Bank has awarded two farmers and four organisations for their outstanding contribution to agriculture.

Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury gave away the ‘Standard Chartered Agro Award’ at a function at Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka on Tuesday.

The best farmer (male) award went to Khan Asaduzzaman of Barisal for brining diversification in fish and fruit farming and cattle rearing.

Alia Begum of Faridpur got the best farmer (female) award for her contribution to poultry farming and cattle rearing.

Bangladesh Agriculture Research Institute (BARI) and Lal Teer Seeds Limited were awarded for innovation and research.

The best associated industry category award went to Alim Industries, which manufactures power threshers, ventilating dryers, rice reapers, and other farm machinery.

Creation Private Limited got the best agriculture export award for selling jute and jute goods in developed nations including the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Japan.

Bangladesh Brand Forum organised the event.

Matia Chowdhury appreciated Standard Chartered for awarding individuals and organisations in the agriculture sector.

He urged all to work for the development of agriculture, a major contributor to the national economy.

Standard Chartered Bank Chief Executive Officer Jim McCabe expressed the hope that ‘the small efforts’ of his bank would encourage farmers of the country to make outstanding contribution to the agriculture sector.

Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor SK Sur Chowdhury, Bangladesh Brand Forum Chief Executive Officer Shariful Islam and StanChart Bangladesh's Head of Corporate Affairs Bitopi Das also spoke at the function.
