Eleven people have sustained burns in a fire at a hardware supplies store at Dhaka’s Tejgaon.

Police said the fire broke out around 2:45pm on Thursday.
The injured are – ‘Motaleb’, 12, Shafiul Azam, 45, Khalilur Rahman, 36, Mahmudul Hasan, 37, Zahirul Islam, 60, Abdul Latif, 70, Md Masud, 25, Zakir, 25, and ‘Uzzal’, 25, Shammi Akhter,19, and Iffat Ara Yasmin, 19.
They are all admitted in the burns unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
Among them elderly Latif and ‘Motaleb’, Khalilur and Shafiul were critical, the doctors have said. They have suffered 75 to 95 percent burns which have damaged their windpipes.
The other sustained 35 to 25 percent burns on their bodies.
Shammi is a BBA student at World University and Iffat Ara studies Electrical Engineering at Northern University. Their legs were burned in the fire.
"The store was at the ground floor of a three-storied building. There's a garments factory above it. But it was not damaged" said Tejgaon Police Station OC Mazharul Islam.
He said four fire-fighting units managed to put out the blaze by 3:30pm.
The injured, were then rushed to hospital for treatment.
Quoting the injured, police said there had been an explosion of sorts in the shop that led to the fire.
