The district’s Additional Superintendent of Police Sohel Reza on Sunday said Kushtia Model Police Station’s OC Abdul Khalek was also withdrawn for his alleged negligence in duty.
‘Sabuj’, 25, died on Saturday from stab injuries sustained during the clash between two groups of Awami League supporters at the town’s Majampur Gate area.
The fight left at least five others injured.
The factions had clashed after paying tributes on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s mural near Majampur bus stand Saturday, the National Mourning Day.
The incident took place while Bangladesh observed the day with much solemnity.
A group of rogue army officials had murdered Bangabandhu, Bangladesh’s founding father and most of his family members on Aug 15 in 1975.
Sabuj’s brother ‘Arif’ lodged the case on Sunday afternoon naming Swechchhasebak League’s town unit General Secretary Sazzad Hossain and 19 others, said Assistant Superintendent of Police Labani Khandker.
Meanwhile, officials confirmed that the man who was seen wielding a shotgun during Saturday’s clash is a former police officer.
Anisur Rahman Anis was an assistant sub-inspector posted in Dhaka’s Bhashantek before he was sacked two years ago.
He is also a relative of the Awami League’s Kushtia town unit former general secretary Mominur Rahman Momij.
Police said they had detained three people for their suspected involvement in the clash, but declined to disclose their identities.
