Savar Municipality Councillor Rahman’s younger son Atiqur Rahman Asif claimed the body is not of his father, as information received from others in Saudi Arabia do not suggest so.
He said his father and mother Alema Begum had been missing since the mishap on Thursday.
Saudi Arabia said the stampede killed 769 and left 934 others injured.
The foreign ministry on Sunday said three Bangladeshis were among the 650 photographs of the victims released by the Saudi authorities.
It also said that the number of missing Bangladeshi pilgrims was “yet to be ascertained”.
Family members at Karnaparha in Savar began mourning after they found the name of Rahman, 47, among the three Bangladeshi victims in media reports.
Asif said he then communicated with the others who went to the Hajj from Savar.
They are Savar Upazila Awami League General Secretary Ali Haider, Juba League leader Sohel Rana, and Savar Enam Medical College Hospital Assistant Director Saiful Islam.
Asif said he called up Sohel Rana in the afternoon after seeing the reports.
“Sohel Rana went to identify the body when he heard that it was of my father. But he saw that it was [the photo of] another person’s body,” Asif said.
Official ‘Ferdous’ of the control room set up in Saudi Arabia told bdnews24.com that they had no confirmed information on the death of any Bangladeshi.
He could not say anything about Rahman either.
Rahman had performed Hajj before. He took his wife Alema Begum this year.
Rahman’s Hajj identity card number is 0235095 and Alema’s 0235096. Their passport numbers are BE0612950 and AF3541875, respectively.
They went to the Hajj through The City Travels.
Asif posted their photos on Facebook and wrote: “We are yet to get father and mother’s information. Please pray for them.”
He said he spoke to his parents around 9:45pm last Wednesday.
Rahman’s mobile phone has been switched off since the stampede.
