One of the detainees is the daughter of a High Court judge.
DU authorities said answers of the test questions were found on the mobile phones as text messages.
The test that started at 10am and ended at 11am took place at various centres both on and outside the university campus.
Of the detainees, Sanjana Binte Bashir was held from Sheikh Borhanuddin College centre, Faisal Kabir from Badrunnesa Govt Women’s College, Ahadur Rahman from Azimpur Agrani School and College, Ariful Islam from Dhanmondi Ideal College, Nurul Afsar from Teachers Training College and two others – Mehedi Hasan and Ershad Haque – were detained from Home Economics College.
Officials seized the documents of one Sagar Hossain, but he managed to flee.
Sanjana is the daughter of Justice ANM Bashir Ullah, said acting Proctor Amjad Ali.
He said, "The seven were caught red-handed while cheating through mobile phones. They have been handed over to the police."
The university is also preparing to file a case against them, Ali added.
He said their mobile phones, extra SIM cards and exam-related documents were seized too.
“The detainees have said that they were being helped by the teachers of three university admission coaching centres – UCC, Uniaid (Kiron-Suman-Kabir) and Paragon.”
This year, 1,170 students will be enrolled in eight departments of the business studies faculty.
According to the university, 49,476 students had applied online to appear for the 'C' unit test.
