Rohingya crisis: Another 20 tonnes of Indonesian aid arrives in Bangladesh

Another 20 tonnes of Indonesian aid for Rohingya refugees has arrived Bangladesh, taking the support from the Southeast Asian country to 77 tonnes so far.

Two aircrafts carrying the aid landed at the southeastern city of Chittagong on Monday.

Chittagong Additional Deputy Commissioner Md Habibur Rahman went to the airport to receive the aid on behalf of Bangladesh.

The aid includes clothes, generators, family kits and various foodstuffs.

A total of 250 tonnes of aid from five countries have made their way to Chittagong thus far following the latest Rohingya influx since late August.

India has sent 107 tonnes, Iran 40 tonnes, Morocco 14 tonnes and Malaysia 12 tonnes.

Indonesia’s first aid flight, which arrived on Aug 14, carried 20 tonnes of rice, tents, blankets and dry food.

Two more flights arrived on Aug 15 carrying blankets, sugar, water tanks, family kits and 10 metric tonnes of rice.

The third pair of flights arrived on Aug 16 carried 20 tonnes of rice, blankets and dried foods.

According to Indian Ambassador to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla, the country has pledged 7,000 tonnes of aid for the Rohingyas.

Another 50 more tonnes of Iranian aid would be airlifted in the coming two or three days, according to an official of the Bangladesh mission in Tehran.
