The incident occurred on Monday night, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Iftekharul Islam told bdnews24.com.

He said the cover of a manhole hit a person while two others were burnt in the fire at a shop and a house.

The person hit by the manhole cover and one of the burnt people died, the police officer said.

The two could not be identified immediately. The police officer suspects they were passersby.

The other burn victim, Abul Hasem, 25, was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Sub-Inspector Bachchu Mia at the hospital's police camp, quoting doctors, said 75 percent of Hasem's body is burnt.

Jatrabarhi Police Station Inspector Tofail Ahmed said the fire crew doused the fire immediately after it originated at around 8:30pm.
