Industrialist and BNP leader Harunur Rashid Khan Monno dies

BNP leader and pioneering industrialist Harunur Rashid Khan Monno died on Tuesday. He was 86.

He passed away at Monno Medical College and Hospital in Manikganj he founded, said BNP’s local unit leader Mainul Islam Shanto.

Monno had been suffering from old-age complications for several years.

He will be buried after his younger daughter Afroza Khan Rita flies in from London, his family said.

Monno was elected as member of parliament from Manikganj-2 constituency in 1991 and 1996. In 2001, he was elected as an MP from the Manikganj-3 constituency and was also a cabinet member during the Khaleda Zia’s administration.

As a senior BNP member from Manikganj, he was also the president of the district unit and a member of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s advisory council.

Khaleda and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed condolences over the death and conveyed their sympathies to the family.
