Hassan Mahmud Tushar, the alleged victim of the assault, first reported the matter on Facebook which went viral with condemnation and criticism on Thursday.

“I heard about the assault incidents in (Bashundhara) mall earlier. Today, I became a victim. My family was with me. Some 12 to13 salespersons including the store manager physically assaulted me,” Tushar wrote about his experience at the Infinity store on the Facebook.

“I had to leave the mall as the salesperson and security people ganged up,” he added.

According to Tushar, it all started over the issue of the trial of a dress before the purchase.

In the face of mounting criticism, the Infinity Mega Mall authorities said 'sorry' but passed the buck on part-time temporary salesmen.

Infinity Bashundhara branch manager Anwar Khan told bdnews24.com on Friday the incident occurred around 11pm Thursday when an altercation between a salesman and some customers turned physical.

“One customer put on a white Panjabi 3 to 4 times for trial. The salesperson asked him to try a different colour of the same size as the white one was getting dirty,” he said.

“There was a lot of shouting. Both sides were agitated. When I went to check the incident, I found there was a scuffle,” he added.

“Anyway, it’s our fault. I am ashamed of the incident and I say sorry for that,” he said adding “A part-time salesman responsible for the incident has been suspended.”

He, however, rejected Tushar’s accusation of misbehaviour by the salespeople in his store.

The Facebook page of the Infinity, where they put a message of apology, was found deactivated on Friday.
