1 killed in attack on UP chairman's house at Faridpur

One person has died and another 25 were injured in fighting between supporters of a Union Parisad chairman and his rival at Faridpur's Saltha Upazila.

Violence began after the home of Shahidul Islam, chairman of Atghar Union, and his supporters were attacked on early Sunday.

One Zia Sheikh, 35, was died during the clashes and another 25 were injured, said District Superintendent of Police Subhash Chandra Saha.

The body has been sent for autopsy. The injured were being treated at the Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

Chairman Sohag, also ruling Awami League's general secretary at Saltha, blamed the attack on Wadud Matabbar, general secretary of Awami League's unit at Gotree Union, one Abu Saleh Khosbu and supporters of neighbouring Kanaipur Union Chairman Fakir Belayet Hossain.

Zia Sheikh, he said, was hacked to death by the attackers who vandalized his home.
