He made the comment during his meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in her office on Thursday morning.

The former UK PM, who had proposed the referendum that altered Britain’s relationship with the EU, arrived in Dhaka for a private visit on Wednesday.

The Conservative leader resigned from office after results of the voting in June last year.

Bilateral trade and investments were discussed in the meeting, said the Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim.

Cameron hailed the development programmes taken by Bangladesh's government, and the country's socioeconomic development under Hasina's leadership.

The prime minister told Cameron that the 100 economic zones being set up in Bangladesh would create a huge number of jobs.

Cameron said the UK could cooperate with Bangladesh in building capacity in those economic zones.

Hasina stressed the need for a solution to the embargo on direct air cargo shipment to the UK from Bangladesh. She said Bangladesh's private sector was facing damage for the ban.

Ihsanul Karim said both the politicians also talked about the Rohingya issue.

Hasina told Cameron Bangladesh sheltered around 400,000 Rohingyas from Myanmar. She discussed the issue of sending them back with the former British prime minister.

The Prime Minister's International Affairs Advisor Gowher Rizvi and UK High Commissioner Alison Blake were also present.
