The Jatiya Party leader was whisked away from his house at Bogra town's Rahmannagar Jiladarparha around 5pm on Tuesday.

Bogra Superintendent of Police Asaduzzaman confirmed the news of his arrest.

Gaibandha ASP Rijinur Rahman said Kader was picked up for questioning as a suspect in Gaibandha MP Manjurul Islam Liton murder case.

The arrest comes a day after Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque said MP Liton's murderers have been identified.

Rijinur said a joint team of police from Bogra and Gaibandha raided the house for an hour but did not fond anything to seize.

Police's Special Branch OC Mahbubul Alam told bdnews24.com that Kader was being taken to Gaibandha for questioning in Liton murder case.

Kader, from Gaibandha's Sundarganj, is a doctor. His wife Nasima Begum is also a doctor. The couple run a clinic at their Bogra house.

Police surrounded the house on Thursday night amidst news that Kader would run for MP in Gaibandha's Sundatganj in the Mar 22 by-election. The last date of submitting nomination paper was Feb 19.

Police later said Kader was 'given security for fear of militant attack'.

Kader's wife Nasima told bdnews24.com that Sundarganj Police Station OC Atiar Rahman, Bogra Detective Branch OC Amirul Islam and Sadar Police Station OC Emdadul Haque were in the team of around 30 policemen that raided their house.

"They could not show any warrant. They said he (Kader) will be questioned in Gaibandha's Sundarganj," she said.

Former army officer Kader is a presidium member of Jatiya Party. He got the party's nomination in the past two parliamentary elections but this time the opposition in Parliament has picked its Chairman HM Ershad's legal adviser Shamim Haider Patwary to run for the Gaibandha by-polls.

The seat fell vacant after the murder of MP Liton at his house on Dec 31 last year.

The ruling party has chosen its Sundarganj unit General Secretary Golam Mostafa Ahmed for the by-election.
