Tofazzel’s son Abdus Sobur, 24, Raihanul Islam, 13, and grandson 'Sourav', 8, are all suffering from an incurable ‘genetic muscular disorder’ called Duchene Muscular Dystrophy which renders virtually every muscle of the body paralysed.

Shenzhen Community President Imadul Haque Ayub handed over a cheque of Tk 100,000 to Tofazzel during an event at bdnews24.com office in the capital on Monday.

Shenzhen Publicity Secretary MA Kashem Murad said he had contacted doctors in Hong Kong and China besides contacting the Chinese mission in Dhaka for help in the treatment of Tofazzel's sons and grandson.

Tofazzel, a resident of Meherpur, said that his elder son developed signs of the disorder when he was about seven. His younger son also suffered the same fate. Gradually the disease rendered them both paralysed.

bdnews24.com first brought to light how Tofazzel, being unable to bear the cost of continued treatment in Bangladesh and India, sought euthanasia for his two sons and a grandson.

With doctors informing that the drugs for the treatment are still under research in the US, a nearly bankrupt Tofazzel has little but to wait to watch the three of them die a slow painful death.

He thanked the Shenzhen Community for standing by him.

bdnews24.com Chief Sub-Editor Mujtaba Hakim Plato, Senior Sub-Editor Habib Imran, Sub-Editor Mahbuba Akter Dina and Meherpur Correspondent Tuhin Aranya were present at the event.
