Journalist dies from bullet injury suffered during AL clash at Sirajganj

A journalist has died after being hit by a bullet amid clashes between rival factions of the Awami League at Sirajganj's Shahzadpur.

Abdul Hakim Shimul, correspondent for the Daily Samakal, succumbed to the head wound while he was being transferred to Dhaka from Bogra on Friday afternoon, said Dr Hafiz Rahman Milon of Hatikumrul's Shakhawat Memorial Hospital.

A fierce skirmish broke out at Sirajganj on Thursday, involving supporters of ousted Shahjadpur Municipality Awami League president Abdur Rahim (VP Rahim) and those of the party unit's Organisational Secretary and Mayor Halimul Haque Miru.

Shimul had been covering the clash and was rushed to Bogra for treatment after he received a bullet wound to the head.
