The entire nation prayed for her life when a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader attacked her with a machete that left her battling with death.

Khadiza is still recuperating at the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) in Savar.

On Wednesday, she reached Osmani International Airport in Sylhet from the capital in a Bangladesh Biman flight at 2:30pm.

She headed for her ancestral home at Ausha in Jalalabad, her elder brother Sharnan Haq Shaheen told journalists.

He said although her health has improved, she is yet to regain her mind.

"So she has been brought here for a week on the advice of her physicians," he said.

Khadiza has been ordered to testify before Sylhet's Chief Metropolitan Magistrate on Feb 26.

Her brother said whether she will do so will be decided after discussion with her doctors.

Khadiza did not speak to the media.

BCL leader Badrul Alam had mounted the attack on Khadiza with the sharp weapon on Oct 3 last year, leaving her critically wounded with serious head injuries.

As a shocked nation condemned the attack, Khadiza was rushed to Dhaka for treatment and was kept on life support at Square Hospital where she also underwent surgery thrice.

She was taken off life support on Oct 13 following improvement in her condition.

On Nov 29, legal proceedings against Badrul were initiated.
