Bangladesh envoy to Singapore presents credentials

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Singapore Md Mustafizur Rahman has presented his credentials to President Tony Tan Keng Yam at his official residence.

The high commissioner was accorded a guard of honour prior to his presenting the letter of credence and the letter of recall of his predecessor to the president on Thursday.

Mustafizur conveyed warm greetings of the President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to President Yam, the foreign ministry said.

The president reciprocated the sentiments and conveyed greetings to the Bangladesh leaders.

He assured the new envoy of his "full cooperation" in carrying out responsibilities and hoped that the bilateral relations will improve during his tenure.

The high commissioner informed the president about "huge development activities in Bangladesh under the present leadership".

He sought more Singaporean investment in the country, particularly in infrastructure development, industrialisation, tourism and energy sector taking advantage of investment-friendly policies.

The president appreciated the economic progress of Bangladesh in recent times "reflected in accelerated economic growth and increased per capita income".

Yam hoped that more Singapore companies would be interested in investing in Bangladesh.

The newly appointed envoy spoke   about the presence of 150,000 Bangladeshi workers and their contribution to the economy of both the countries.
