Six killed in Comilla after bus goes off the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway

At least six people have been killed and 32 seriously injured after a bus veered off the road and fell into a water body in Comilla’s Daudkandi Upazila.

The accident occurred around 4:30 am on Saturday near the Jhingaltali area on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway, said Daudkandi Highway police OC Abdul Awwal.

Two of those killed have been identified so far. They are 48-year-old ‘Atia’ and 60-year-old ‘Enamul’ from Nilphamari. 

The Jhumur Transport Bus from Nilphamari went off the road and fell into a water body after the driver lost control, said RAB-11 DAD Md Emdad.

“Five bodies were recovered from the spot. Another person died in the hospital."

Seventeen injured victims were given first aid and 15 others have been taken to various medical facilities in the surrounding area, said the RAB official.

Three fire service units began rescue operations around 7:45am, said OC Abdul Awwal.

A crane was being used to lift the bus from the water body around 10:45am.
