They were part of a “group of miscreants” who had gathered at ‘Balur Maath’ on early Wednesday, said RAB-3 Commander Lt Col Sarwar Alam.

RAB raided the area after receiving a tip off, he said.

“The miscreants fired shots when they saw RAB personnel approaching the field. Two were injured when RAB fired back.”

Two pistols, five ammunition rounds and mobile phones were recovered from the site of the shooting, said the RAB official.

At around 3:30am, the two were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the doctors declared them dead.

The deceased are of 30 to 35 years of age, said DMCH police outpost SI Md Bacchu Miah.

RAB has intensified patrolling following recent newspaper reports of mugging in the capital, said RAB official Sarwar.
